Choquequirao

Choquequirao is located in the department of Cusco, province of La Convención, district of Santa Teresa. More precisely it is situated in the mountain Choquequirao pertaining to the mountain chain of Salkantay, beneath the snow covered mountain Yanacocha, close to Playa Rosalina on the right oft the river Apurimac.
The main place of the citadel Choquequirao is on 3008 meters of altitude and was an important religious, politic and administrative center, a residence of people as well as an astronomic observatory. For its geography the zone presents a variety of microclimates. The archeological construction is 47 km of the town Cachora, which you can reach on a path admiring the beauty of the landscapes and the colorful vegetation. Also the canyon of Apurimac can be appreciated.
The archeological construction belongs to Pachakuteq (a ninth of the Inca Empire). Its Inca architecture is advanced for its two floors with niches in the interior, its doors and jambs as well for its irrigation channels. Ones can appreciate as well rests of big constructions, terraces and towers. The used materials of these constructions are stones treated by a mud mortar. The extension of the whole complex amounts to approximately 500 hectares.
The Inca region ranks as the biggest diversity and variety of ecological floors in Peru, spread in 84 regions of 116 in the world. It has as well an ample diversity of flora and fauna; considered as one of the zone of great potential for the development of the ecological truism.
